The fact that the Detroit Lions are rolling along at 5-0 this season should hit home for people who cheer for losing teams and know nothing but frustration and loss. They may well fall apart and run into the intersection of bad luck and inexperience when the playoffs arrive (assuming they continue like this and end up owning the NFC North, which is entirely possible). But people need to understand that the one thing the NFL does better than any other professional sports league is this thing called parity.
Parity means that a team that loses ten or twelve games one season can make adjustments and come back and win a lot of games and go to the playoffs the following season. It allows players to move from one team to the other and blend with others and create opportunities to win.
